before the worst.

A couple of months ago, me and a bunch of friends organized the 30 Hour Famine.

It was an experience to say the least. I can honestly tell you that the night before, I was so worried that the camp would fail. Thank God it didn't though. Not as successful as I would have liked it to be but it was alright. Organizing it taught me a lot though.

Anyway, something came in the mail for me today from World Vision.

30 Hour Famine 2008 Project Report.
A CD. Video of the famine countdown and pictures from all the camps held in Malaysia.

All together, WV managed to raise RM1,122,563.08. Which is quite impressive considering when we went to hand in our donation cards, they only managed to raise RM300k.

This has totally got me thinking about organizing another camp next year.

Hmm......wonder whether Taylor's will allow?(Yes that's where I intend to go for my A-levels).

Seeing as they didn't do one this year. Which I thought they would considering they're such a big college and all.

Here's a picture of the screen. First page first link.

It's quite small so click on the picture for a bigger view.

Haha. It's not really major news but for those of you who know Weng Yan. This should come as a shock.

Just today, she bought......

wait for this.

A DRESS!!!!

Shocking I know. Tube one somemore.

I'm hoping prom will be on. Just so that I can go dress shopping.

love at first sight.

Just a little story. Enjoy.

This is a true story of a young college girl who passed away last month, at Shah Alam. Her name is Priya; she was hit by a lorry.

I don't want to mention the name of the college. She had a boyfriend named Shankar. He lives in Johore. Both of them are true lovers. They are always on the phone with each other. You can never see her without her handphone.

She spends most of the day talking with Shankar. Priya's family knows about their relationship. Shankar is very close with Priya's family (just imagine their love). Before she passed away she always told her friends "If I pass away please burn me with my handphone". She also said the same thing to her parents.

After her death, people couldn't carry her coffin. I was there ~ a lot of them tried to do so but still couldn't, everybody including me, had tried to carry the coffin, the result was still the same.

Eventually, they called their neighbour, a "bomoh" from Thailand (pak Darin), who is a friend of her father's. He took a seat and started speaking to himself slowly. After a few minutes, he said "this girl misses something here". Then her friends told Darin bout her intentions to burn her with her phone. He then opened the coffin and place her phone, together with the SIM card inside the casket. After that they tried to carry the coffin. It could now be moved and they carried it into the van easily. All of us were shocked. (can you feel the fear? I'm shaking at this moment.)

Priya's parents didn't inform Shankar that Priya had passed away (pity Shankar). After 2 weeks Shankar called Priya's mom.

Shankar: "Atte, I'm coming home today. Please cook something nice for me. Don't tell Priya that I'm coming home today; I want to surprise her."

Her mother replied, "You come home first, I want to tell you something very important."

After he arrived at Shah Alam, they told him the truth about Priya.

Shankar thought that they were fooling around. He was laughing and said, "Don't try to fool me ... tell Priya to come out ... I have a gift for her. Please stop this nonsense."

Then they show him the Priya's death certificate; they gave him proof to make him believe.

Shankar started to sweat profusely. He said, "It's not true. We spoke yesterday. She still calls me."

Shankar was shaking so badly when suddenly, his phone rang.

"See this is from Priya. See this ...." he showed the phone to Priya's family. All of them told him to answer. He used the loudspeaker mode. All of them heard this conversation, loud and clear. No cross lines, no humming. It was Priya's voice! And there was no way others could use her SIM card as it was nailed inside the coffin! They were so shocked and asked for pak Darin's help.

Pak Darin brought his master (Tok Chen) to solve this matter. He and pak Darin worked for 5 hours ... then they discovered one thing .....

*DiGi. Best coverage ever, ONE LOW FLAT RATE~!!!!!!! Anyone, any network, anytime, ANYWHERE!!!*
Ok, now back to work ..... \(^*^)/

Funny right? Personally, I'm a Hotlink user. But I find Digi ads just so funny!!
I like the current duck one.

save me.

Sometimes I wish I could just screw SPM over and fail every single subject.

All to spite YOU.

I hate hearing stories of how you were always the top student and that I should be thankful that you're not pushing me as hard as your parents pushed you.

Different people take things differently. While you may like playing the role of know-it-all in school I don't care for it. I'd rather enjoy myself than grow up to be a hypothetical selfish perosn like you who may be smart but suck at everything else in life.

I just wanna burn my books.

nobody believes me.

Just got back from dinner at this little Indian restaurant. The food there was good.

Usually the only place I eat Indian food is at Saffron, this restaurant at Sri Hartamas where there have this fluffy naan like thing called bhatura. So apparently my dad took his friend there for lunch one day and the friend said that he knew of another restaurant that had better food.

Went there to try it today. And the food is way BETTER than Saffron's. The restaurant is called Jassala and it's at Brickfields. You bascially have to park at KL Sentral and cross the road to get to the restaurant. I felt so fair there seeing as we were the only Chinese people in the place. Like everytime people walked into the restaurant, they would give us this look. The 'Why are there Chinese people here?' look.

Anyway, I'd totally recommend the restaurant if you like Indian food. I loved their mutton curry and this chicken kebab thing.

rubbing the whiteboard.

Last day of secondary school.

How do I feel?

Well, it hasn't quite hit me that I'll never have a class in Sri KDU again so I can't say I'm sad. I'm sure it'll sink in eventually but for now can't say it has affected me much.

Who knew 5 years could pass by so fast. It may sound like a long time but it really isn't.

So much has changed in 5 years. Whether I've changed for better or for worse depends on when you to me. Sometimes I think I'm a better person. Sometimes I think I'm not. Being in KDU has changed me quite a bit. If you told me 5 years ago that I would one day love cheerleading and want to join school performances. I would probably tell you that you're dreaming. I am way more outgoing than I ever thought I would be.

Okay, this is going to be a short post as not really in the mood to reminisce.

BUT,

Be prepared for major reminiscing after SPM.
One post for every year of my secondary school life. Haha.

everything you gave back.

I could stand outside Your gates
And never enter in
I could let this moment pass
And go my way again
I could just keep silent
And hold from You my praise
Or I could give my heart away

I choose to worship
I choose to love You
To reach out and touch Your heart
I want to know You
Here in this moment
O I choose to worship You

Yesterday at the worship enablers workshop this was the first song to play during worship. And later on the way back my mum was telling me about how at home fellowship the pastor was saying how sometimes obedience to God requires sacrifices.

I really felt that God was trying to tell me that I made the right choice.

But now I have to work on my fill ins!!!!! More stressful than piano class I swear. At least then all I have to do is practice and follow the notes. Now I have to improvise my way through.

On school,

For English form 5 literature, we do a novel titled 'The Pearl' by John Steinbeck.

In the novel, there is a town called La Paz. And so during trials we had to write a bit about the setting of the novel so obviously we had to talk about La Paz.

Guess what the wonderful ex-HEAD PREFECT wrote instead?

La Push.

HAHA. Twilight fans should know what I'm talking about. Talk about having nothing but Twilight on your mind Jia Lik.

silence is just so loud.

You know different have different ways of de-stressing? Especially with SPM coming up. I'm sure a lot of people are stressed out. Well, there's this guy who has found a way to release his stress.

How?

By writing a song about SPM!!!

Yes, it's the SPM song.

for the link to his blog where you can hear the song.

And I must say, it's not bad. Pretty catchy after a while.

for the taking.

Last week of secondary school life. After this is two weeks of study leave before the day comes.

November 11. The start.

November 27. The end.

It also means all the trials results are coming back this week. No, I don't ecpect much from the results considering I didn't study. Didn't work even 1/10 of how much some people in my class have worked.

Surprised to hear that I don't study? If you are, then you obviously don't know me that well. Those who do would realize that I'm not bothered by this exam stress thing that seems to affect everyone so badly. Let's just say this 'attitude' of mine started a long long time ago.

You see, one faithful day sometime when I was in primary 3, I realized that why should I bother so much trying to do well when even if I get 90 I get yelled at. 100 is always the goal. Fail to meet the goal and well, you don't really want to know. So I decided that I might as well get the same scolding/punishment while enjoying myself before exams instead of slaving away for good marks when only perfection is suffice.

So yeah, I guess this has carried on till today. But I do intend to work hard for SPM itself. After all, I did work hard for PMR. Major exams are still worth the effort. Minor exams? Not so important. Do not intend to stress and lose sleep over these things. My brain cells do not want to die early and sleeping too little will shorten your lifespan.

just one chance.

For as long as I can remember I've always had to sacrifice something for all my classes. Especially my ballet class. Countless times I've had to say no to parties, dinners and shows just because I'd rather go for ballet. Well, the day has come that I'm going to sacrifice ballet for something else.

I mean, the only reason I still take ballet is because I like it. Not because I'm good at it. In fact, I'm VERY bad at it. I'm suppose to take the Grade 8 exam next year, but at the rate I'm going I think the chances of it happening is zero. So I figured, if I don't take the exam next year and postphone it a year later, I'll have more time on my hands. And I'll be able to make it for the workshops on Tuesday nights.

What workshop am I talking about?

Well, next year my church is combining the second traditional service and the praise & worship service to form the contemporary worship service. And I've been asked to be a worship enabler for the service as a keyboardist. The thing is that they're having a sort of training workshop thing every Tuesday at 8.15p.m. And my ballet only ends at 8.45p.m. So I must make a choice. I guess the choice wasn't very difficult to make but I do wish there was another way around it.

Guess I've picked
this.

over this.

And here,

Intro video to the contemporary worship service.

How am I going to tell Ms. Leong(my ballet teacher) this.

don't look back.

Just a brief post seeing as it's quite late and I still want to finish reading my fanfiction.

Went to Curve after tuition today to watch Eagle Eye. The movie was quite good. There was enough non-action moments to balance the action scenes. And YAP TRIXIE SHOULD HAVE COME!!! Who else is going to laugh with me when a guy gets injured by having power cables fall on him in the movie. Yes. My sense of humour is strange at times. Nikki said I laughed so much during the movie when it was totally inappropriate. Had lunch after that at Secret Recipe. Watched the others bowl for a while before my mum picked me.

And, I hate it when it rains sometimes. The roads get so jammed and it took so freaking long to get back home eventhough Curve is like 10 minutes away from my house.

Supposed to go for ballet but my mum had the TRA Annual Dinner and Sher Wen's parents are in Kedah. So no transport. Ended up following my mum for the dinner. Food definitely not what I expected seeing as it came from the Cuisine Studio and the food there is quite nice. The Tiramisu was VERY NICE though. And since the dinner had some dancy-dancy theme. At the end during dessert, lots of people went up to the dance floor to dance. It was quite a sight I tell. you. A bunch of adults who are older than my parents dancing to songs from their time.
Quite funny.

Okay, that's about it. Back to fanfiction!!! Do let me know if you have any good ones to recommend.

stop that now.

After EST today, waited around school till Jia's mum came to pick us up to go to 1U.

Went there and bought movie tickets for 'The House Bunny' and 'Mamma Mia'. Went for lunch at the Chocolate Lounge after that. I had this drink that was nice but for people who cannot tahan spicy shouldn't try it. It's called Lady In Red which is basically hot chocolate with red chilli pepper on top. Quite nice. Love the chocolate taste and the feeling of the chilli burning down my throat.

'The House Bunny' was really funny. But the weird thing is, I think in the cinema, only Jia Lik, Trixie and I laughed so much. It's like everytime there was a funny moment we laughed first and the loudest. Everyone else just sat there. Quite weird considering it's a comedy movie.

Spent the next 2 hours trying on stuff at Topshop and Zara. Trixie made me try this green dress. And the first time all three of us saw it, we immediatly thought of Gossip Girl. You know the episode where Serena was in Elaenor's fashion show and she wore Jenny's green dress? Yeah, we all thought the dress reminded us of that.

The dress on the far left.

Okay, now that I look at it, the dress doesn't look anything like Serena's.
*Being a girl, I'm totally allowed to take pictures of myself in the dressing room.*
Don't judge me.

So there were a few things I'm going to remember and get my mum to buy for me next time. Okay, so we were supposed to watch Mamma Mia at 4.40p.m., we even had the tickets already. Unfortunately, Jia's mum wanted her to go home at 4. So she did. I was going to get a ride home from her but seeing as she went home, I had no choice but to get my mum to pick me up around 5.15p.m. So poor Trixie watched Mamma Mia alone. SORRY TRIXIE!!!! If only my mother didn't have a dinner in town then I could have gone home later. I so can't wait to get my licence.

Wednesday, October 15, 2008

if I could only.

Trials are now over!!!

Well, not officially. Still have EST paper 2 tomorrow.

Going out to watch movies. Wow, it's been like so freaking long since I've watched a movie in a cinema.

And I've just finished watching the new episode of Gossip Girl!!! So glad that Blair and Serena have made up. I felt so sad for Blair since the beginning of the season. It was like season 2 is pick on Blair season.

On another note, I've realized that 90% of the time me and my family can't walk out of a bookshop without buying something. It's like the books are yelling 'Buy me! Buy me!'. Hence why we have so many books at home. One day I'me totally going to sit down and wrap all the books so that 10 years down the road I can still read my favourite books which should be in perfect condition.

Anyone want to recommend books to me?

Books that are similar to anything by Jeffrey Archer and Rohinton Mistry are very much welcome. Good chick lit also okay. Psychological thrillers are good too if the ending is the unexpected super twisted kind.

not less, not more.

I don't know how true this article is but it sure is funny!

Ten Golden Rules Of Online Gaming.

Also, do you wish you could be sarcastic? Wished you had the knowledge to insult others while having the satisfaction that your intelligence is far superior to theirs and that they had no idea what the heck your comment just meant?

Well now you can. Introducing the very short tutorial titled

How To Be Sarcastic.

straight from the sarcasm society themselves.

P.S I've just realized my computer has been switched on since Sunday as I've been downloading 'Privileged' and '90210'. And I have no intention of turning it off now.

Gossip girl Season 2 Episode 6!!

Monday, October 13, 2008

Pourquoi.

Totally the wrong time. Not only am I hooked onto Gossip Girl Season 2, now Trixie has me downloading another series.

Privileged.
Twenty-three-year-old Megan Smith (Joanna García) (Reba) has a Yale education, a relentlessly positive attitude, and a plan to conquer the world of journalism, despite the fact that she is slaving away at a tabloid rag. Megan's plan is thrown off course when, in one whirlwind day, she gets fired, meets cosmetics mogul Laurel Limoges (Anne Archer, Ghost Whisperer), and becomes the live-in tutor for Laurel’s twin teen granddaughters in the heady Palm Beach, Florida, world of wealth and power. The girls, Rose (Lucy Hale, Bionic Woman) and Sage (Ashley Newbrough, The Best Years), are beautiful, rebellious, and less-than-thrilled with their new tutor, but Megan is determined to win them over as she enjoys the perks of her new job.

Not bad as far as I've seen. Watched episodes 1 and 2.
So now in addition to GG, I'll be downloading a new episode of Privileged every week.
When there is less than a month to SPM.

On a totally different topic, here are a few things I wish I could buy.

Mirror of Erised from Harry Potter. $69. *Wonder what I would see.*

Wedges from Pucci. $699. *If these were available in Malaysia I'd totally get it!*

Dress from Versace. Price not available.
*I love the dresses at 1.54 and 2.25. Love the heart zipper thing.*

bona fide lover.

Like since the beginning of the year, I've been waiting for one particular phone to come out.

Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1. I even told my mum about it and she said I could get it when it comes out as long as it isn't too pricey. According the to SE website, the phone is due out in September. It is now October and still it's not out in Malaysia. But it is out in Sweden already, just recently.

And the sad thing is I won't be able to get it.

Cause the price is *drum rolls*

476 pounds.

Multiply that by the exchange rate of 6.2, the price in Malaysian Ringgit is RM2951.20.

I did read somewhere that it'd be out on 25th October 2008 in Malaysia.
If I wait a few months for the price to come down, I might get it!!! I think as long as it drops to RM2,000 I hope.

XPERIA X1. I await.

*CLICK HERE* for a link to unboxing pictures of the X1.

tracing faces.

After church, went to Mandarin Oriental for breakfast with my two aunties and grand aunty. One aunty is working in London, the other doing her internship for medicine in Australia so I don't get to see them as much anymore. They're still 20+ so it's nice hanging out with them when they come back.

If you go to Mandarin Oriental for dim sum, DO try their 'char siu soh' and fried custard bun thing. very yummy!! And you know a few posts back I posted up the medical student specialist route thing, it is quite true according to my aunty. So if you want to pick a medical field look at the chart!

And I heard this SUPER lame but funny joke.

One day, 'char siu pau' and 'man tou' went to watch a movie. So right, the movie was really sad and 'char siu pau' cried a lot during the movie. But 'man tou' didn't. Why?

*Hightlight below to see the answer*

Because 'man tou' has no feelings(filling).

Funny right? There's a follow up joke but I think I'll leave that to the next post. Cause you need to get the first one before I can tell you the follow up one.

soundtrack of my summer.

You want to know how to find the most beautiful girl in a country?

Well apparently this TV show from Japan has come up with a theory. Go onto the street and pick a random woman. Then ask her to introduce a friend of hers who she thinks is better looking than her. Continue on till you meet the 12th girl. She will be the most beautiful one.

Quite weird no?

But here's a video of the 'experiment' in Italy. They also went to a bunch of other countries.

I do think that the last one is the prettiest. 2nd one too.

*CLICK HERE* for the Taiwan one. From there you can link to the others.

I know I'm wasting my time.

You know how people say that school life is nothing compared to real life? That while you may the best in school you may not always succeed in the real world. Or just because you were a failure in school doesn't mean you can't be successful later on. After all, Michael Jordan was kicked off his high school basketball team but yet he became one of the greatest basketballers of all time.

But this I'll tell you, Sri KDU does help prepare you for one aspect of the real world. Not sure about other schools but I know I've learnt one thing in my school that is very relevent to the outside world of Malaysia.

And just what is it?

It's not what you know, it's who you know.

Don't deny it. You know it. I know it. There is much biasness in our school system. I won't be particular to who I'm referring to seeing as someone could very well read this blog and I'll get reported to Mrs. Chan. But I'm sure most of you know who the few in our school are.

Why am I suddenly talking about this? I don't know, just felt like it I suppose.

There are many incidences where credit is not given where credit is due. And those who are the more well liked ones get their praises sung and nominations. I'm not saying it's always like that, but it does happen quite often.

Not only are students victims of unfairness, teachers are too. Those aren't as obvious considering that the students don't have much knowledge of what goes on between our teachers and the school management. But if you've realized, more and more teachers are leaving the school. Now doesn't that tell you something?

Sri KDU started out so well. I remember that most of our teachers were quite good. But as the years went on, everyone started leaving. Now, there are only a handful of good teachers left. No offence meant to the teachers. Biasness will be the fall of Sri KDU.

Oh well, at least this has taught us all a lesson on real life. While I'm not saying I expect everyone to be totally just and fair but I do hope that there will be a little more fairness in our school. It just isn't fair to those who are being overlooked for not being the 'favourite'.

Leaving you with a quote from Bill Gates.

"Life is unfair, get used to it."

However, I do want to be on the fairer side.

come what may.

For all those future medical students and also current medical students. Want to do a specialist course but don't know which way to go? Surgery? Pathology?

Well here's a simple chart that will solve your problems!

Just choose the honest answer and your future career awaits.

Haha. Don't blame me if you don't succeed in the given field.

heard it all.

The worst is over.

And I've survived. No impulses to burn my books or jump out the window yet so everything seems to be going fine.

3 more days till the end. Or rather 33 days till THE END a.k.a SPM.

Find me the button to end SPM please.

Also, is it just me or do I see people quoting Moulin Rouge a lot nowadays?

I think I've seen it quoted on MSN, blogs and books. And it's always the same line.

The greatest thing you'll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return.

Looks like I still have a lot to learn.

P.S Only 1 hour and 20 minutes till the official Twilight trailer is out.

just anti everything.

Wanna know something I've just found out!?

That Draco Malfoy did NOT marry Pansy Parkinson as I thought.

Instead, J.K Rowling made up this completely new character who I've not read of in the 7 FREAKING books!!

Weng Yan came and asked me whether there was an Astoria Greengrass mentioned in the books because on her RP site Astoria is listed as a canon(meaning not made up but straight from the author) character who was married to Draco Malfoy.

I'm not an crazy HP fan but I have read the books a couple of times and never come across this name. But Google has proved me wrong. Apparently J.K Rowling said she didn't want Draco to marry Pansy so she made up a completely UNHEARD of character to be his wife.

Haha. This is such an out of topic post considering I have Add. Maths and Chem tomorrow but here I am blogging about Harry Potter.

two weeks.

Found this really cool way of sorting your books.

It's called the Sorted Books project.

Basically you sort your books by using their titles to form a sentence/haiku/poem/whatever else you want. It's quite interesting to see.

Only attempt if you have a large book collection where your books have very different and varied titles.

My favourite so far.

Go to *THIS* website for more information about the project and to see more examples.

I think after I'm done with trials I'm going to try this out just for the fun of it.

for such a long long time.

You know who I think are the smartest people in the world??

The JAPANESE!!

Why?

Because they invented hair straightening.

If you all don't already know, I hate letting my hair down because it's so freaking thick that it looks like a lion's mane. No, I'm not kidding. So around form 2 my mum took me to straighten my hair. And I loved it!! Was suppose to go do it again last year but I was just so super lazy.

Well, since I had a week off school and no ballet till Friday, me and weng yan went to get our hair done. And even though it looks a bit flat now, I LOVE my hair so much more!!!!

Before. Retarded hair.

After. Nice straight un-mane like hair.

On another note, I've been so productive this holidays. I've gotten so much studying done that I think this is the most I've ever studied in my life.

you've reminded me.

I just watched Penelope last night!! Quite like it. Not enough of James Mcavoy in it though.

There was this song that played in the credits that I really like but can't find the lyrics to.

Your Disguise by James Greenspun.

Below is what I think the lyrics are but there might be a mistake. So if anyone would look through it to see whether I'm singing the wrong lyrics.

Alone
In your mind
Waiting for the sun to shine
Alone
In your mind
Waiting for the sign

That it's time to break free
From the words that hold you down
To escape from the feeling
You are lost and can't be found

[Chorus]
Don't hide your face
You cannot erase
The pain that stays in your eyes
Lay down your guard
Show them who you are
Behind your disguise

You run far from home
You think you'll make it on your own
You run fast and slow
But never seem to know
Where you're going

To break free
From the words that hold you down
To escape from the feeling
You are lost and can't be found
You are lost and can't be found

[Chorus]

Your disguise....

[Chorus]

Behind your disguise....
Your disguise....
