yeongwonhi.

A New Year.

Time for a small post reflecting on 2009.

I'd say that this year passed by way too fast for my liking. It's like all I did was close my eyes for a while and then the whole year passed by.

So many firsts this year. So many changes.

But overall I'd say this has been a good year =D.

Getting to experience a non-science class. New friends =). Many trips to KL Pac. End of ballet, violin and piano classes. A car. Holiday internships. Traveling without parents to UK.

Yes. I'd say this has been a eventful year.

Will 2010 be just as good?

Only time will tell. But I'm being optimistic. Haha.

5seconds.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't most girls looking for their knight?

Whether it's the white knight who is always there for you. Ready to throw everything away just to make you happy. Always there with the handkerchief to dry your tears.

or

The dark knight. Who makes your blood boil cause at times he gets on your nerves. But despite his cold nature, he is different around you and you know that he does love you.

Maybe it's possible to find just one. But let's say you have both in your life.

Yes, both a white knight and a dark knight.

If push comes to shove,

who would you pick?

Haha. Yes people, this is all triggered by Boys Over Flowers. For those who've watched it, besides the whole white and dark thing, what about the true love and soul mate issue? What would your choice be.

Perhaps the solution is to find the grey knight =P.

627.

Halfway around the world =).

It's not as cold as I thought it'd be. Maybe being in Taylor's for so long has made me more adaptable to cold? Haha. You'd never know.

Not much to update seeing as all I've done so far is come to Cambridge and eat dinner. Killing some time now cause Trixie has class.

sajna.

Had lunch today at Chili's, 1U with Caroline, Marcia, Kim, Pam, Lisa, Jun Kit, Sean, Daniel, Ee Tzen and Leon.

I had a pretty entertaining time.

After that Jun Kit&Marcia went against Daniel&Lisa in a game of pool. And I swear the most popular phrase mentioned during the two games was "No pressure". Haha. Don't you think that just gives people more pressure?

Anyways, watched Couples Retreat with Marcia and Caroline. The movie was not bad. Definitely better than I expected. I thought it'd be a lot of slapstick comedy, but I must say there were quite a number of awww inducing moments. Which of course only applied to me and Marcia while we had Caroline giving us a weird look and saying "You two ah."

So yeah, it was a good day.

P.S Thanks for the present people =). There is much "sentimental" value there =P.

free.

The only thing that stops me is knowing that if I do,

I'd meet you there.

I'd rather have my eternal burning flames in peace.

ths

Last night I went for a wedding dinner where the entertainment was these two old men singing.

It started out pretty well cause they sang the usual lovey dovey songs.

But as the night went on, the songs got newer and newer.

Guess what they sang??

Who let the dogs out? by Baha Men
I got a feeling by Black Eyes Peas
I know you want me by Pitbull

A bit strange for a wedding. More strange for the singers since they looked about my grandfather's age.

physicist.

Our whole universe was in a hot dense state,
Then nearly fourteen billion years ago expansion started. Wait...
The Earth began to cool,
The autotrophs began to drool,
Neanderthals developed tools,
We built a wall (we built the pyramids),
Math, science, history, unraveling the mysteries,
That all started with the big bang!

The Big Bang Theory Theme Song. Must watch!!!

"Happily ever after is so once upon a time"

I'm sure many have heard that quote.

And here are some pictures taken by Dina Goldstein which show what
Disney princesses would be like if they were ordinary women.

Snow White. Many kids. Useless husband.

Little Red Riding Hood. Obesity.

Jasmine. At war.

So yeah, those are the few I like.

last week.

TCSH had their first ever prom yesterday.

Theme was Feu et la Glace (Fire & Ice)

It was not bad. I know a lot of hard work and time went into it and it was a stressful time for some of the committee. So I'd say it went well considering everything.

Performances were pretty entertaining. The Taylor's dance crew from Subang were gooooood. Prom King and Queen nominee performances were quite good too. Isabelle and David's performance was so funny!! Anthea and Darren as well as Ayesha's singing were good too.

The HS2 and 3 girls who went. But we're missing Ayesha!!
L-R: Aisha, Me, Kim, Pam, Marcia(Best Student Council Member!! =D), Anthea and Lisa

You know what, I think the students in KDU are treated more maturely than the TCSH students. Like, seriously. Speeches at prom?? VIP tables reserved for staff and teachers?? And here I was thinking proms are meant to be a night for students to let loose and have fun.

coach.

Watched New Moon last night.

It was, well, better than Twilight at least. Less of Robert Pattinson to see.

Haha.

It was cheesy line after cheesy line after cheesy line. As in the script was SO predictable.

Nonetheless, it was an enjoyable movie. And I think it's a KDU kid thing to have a slightly warped sense of humour cause it seemed to me that we laughed so much during the movie but the rest of the cinema didn't.

I feel so bad for Jacob =(. Bella is evil.

I have a feeling that many people are Team Edward(Cullen) but Team Taylor(Lautner). Seriously, Robert Pattinson is such a horrible actor and with Taylor Lautner looking the way he does, you can't not feel for him.

enthusiastic.

Anyone in or going to Oxford??

Cause just recently, the common room of Magdalen College Junior has been renamed Gryffindor common room.

Yes you read that right. Exactly like Harry Potter.

Three other colleges, Christ Church, St. Hughs and Merton are now petitioning to rename their common rooms too. To what else but Slytherin, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw.

Interesting no?

I can just imagine all the HP fans wanting to apply there now.

midnight.

For A2 Psychology, we're suppose to be studying Abnormal and Educational psychology.

Hmmm. Why do I need to tell you that?

Read on.

This week we started learning about schizophrenia.

And you know where this led me to?

To Twilight. To Bella Swan.

I'll admit that I was once a full on Twilight lover. But I think that was mainly cause when I read a book I become the character. Now that I think about the story from a third person POV, it's just so pathetic to say the least.

Anyways, back to schizophrenic Bella. Here are some characteristics that I think she has.

1. Social dysfunction.
Bella who is described to be pretty moves all the way to Forks leaving her old life behind yet she does not mention anything about her life back there. No friends?? Talk about having OCD(Obsessive Cullen Disorder) too.

2. Hallucinations.
Edward appearing to her and telling her not to do dangerous things during New Moon.

3. Catatonic state.
New Moon yet again.

What do you think?

wedding dress.

I don't know whether it's just me who thinks of this.

Scenario A:

A guy is in love with his girl best friend. Girl gets a boyfriend.

What happens?
Guy still continues to be close to her but never reveals his feelings. The girl never realises that her best friend is in love with her and so continues in her happy happy joy joy relationship.

Result?

Guy has a broken heart.

Scenario B:

A girl is in love with her guy best friend. Guy gets a girlfriend.

What happens?
Instead of revealing her feelings, she says nothing and slowly distances herself away from the guy. And the girlfriend gets jealous of all the time the girl and guy spend together.

Result?

Girl forgets about guy (Or at least tries to).

Don't know how accurate this is. But I think these things always happen in movies or books or videos. And we all know that somehow it's gotta be based on something real.

bury the castle.

Leave Me from Daros Films on Vimeo.

Sometimes you watch a movie or a video

and tears can't help but fall

Maybe it's because you feel the characters are going through exactly what you've felt before. And that you're not alone. Because no matter how much people say that it's just a video or a movie, someone out there wrote it based on a feeling, an experience or even just something that he or she heard of before.

Or maybe it's just because you can sympathize with the character. You become emotionally involved in it. As if you are the character.

But sometimes it's because you know that you will never feel the same way the character does.

dream on.

Today, after several months of trying to get my hot neighbor's attention by dressing in pretty clothes and wearing make-up, I decided that it is a lost cause. This morning, I slipped into a pair of faded jeans and a white t-shirt and only wore lip gloss and was leaving my house to walk to Starbucks. I meet him in the hallway and Mr. Usually Oblivious says to me "You look pretty today," and asks if he can join me. All this time he's just been waiting for me to be myself. Average is good. MLIA.

GUESS WHAT????

Friday the 13th is over. Which also means that 13 November 2009 is long gone.

Which ultimately means that AS finals are OVERRRRRRR
(for the Arts people anyways. sorry Science people.)

After getting a present for Lisa, Pam, Marcia and I went over to Lisa's. Where I swear, I haven't laughed so much for such a long time. While I'd only just met many of them at the party, it was fun =D.

Back to daily blogging now =).

miles.

Before you think I broke the hiatus thing again. This is a scheduled post =P.

Haha.

For those of you out there who love to write. Or want to try your hand at writing. Here's something that will surely pose a challenge.

National Novel Writing Month a.k.a NaNoWriMo.

Basically all you have to do is sign up. And for the whole month of November you write. Yes there is a goal for you to achieve. 50,000 words by 30th November 2009. 30 days to complete a 50,000 word novel.

It can be about anything and everything.

*CLICK HERE* for more info. =)

Yup, I'm gonna attempt it. Leave a comment if you're participating too. And maybe after that we can swap novels. Maybe.

Yes yes it's about a wedding. But it's soooooo sweet. =)

I love the end when the groom gives his speech.

"You(bride) said I was only after one thing."

"And you were right."

"I was after your heart."

what's worth.

Optimist or pessimist?

Sounds like a stupid question no?

After all, I highly doubt suicidal people are optimistic. So clearly on that point being optimistic would be better since dying is perceived by most people as being not good.

But yet, wouldn't it be better to not be disappointed with life so often?

Situation: Someone applies to two different universities, one is really prestigious and the other is not bad but definitely not as good as the prestigious university.

Optimistic approach ~ "There's a chance that I'll get into the prestigious uni!!"
Pessimistic approach ~ "Oh well, I'm just trying my luck since I'm not good enough."

Result A: Person gets accepted in the prestigious uni.

Optimistic reply ~ "WOOHOO!! I knew I could do it!!"
Pessimistic approach ~ "Wow, they actually want me??"

Result B: Person does not get accepted into prestigious uni.

Optimistic reply ~ "Oh no, WHY?? Well, at least I can still go to uni."
Pessimistic reply ~ "I knew it."

Maybe it's just me. But I'd prefer to be pessimistic. After all, it'll be easier to be pleasantly surprised. Haha.

P.S Every time I think about this question I remember Trixie's presentation in English class and how being optimistic will lead to a person dying cause the bridge collapsed. Remember that Trixie???

quarantine.

Call in the airstrike, tell them to make the drop
and now she ate a cycle no-one but you can stop
Would it be fair to say that you're in love with love?

And is that enough?
I bet you feel really potent stuff
the shadows of doubt on how things turn out
are typically gray
But even the stucco on the wall
is right two times a day
and it's still enough

Just how much distance means we're on our own?
and can we be happy,
happy alone?

The universe opens up the door
and we go right in, it's there, it's new, it's cool
it's something we ain't seen before
And five minutes in
an egg timer rings
to clip off our carefree flapping wings
show us the things we can't afford
and throw us overboard
but it's still enough.

Just how much distance means we're on our own?
until i see you off at home
down the sidewalk in my head
I might be sinking like a stone
but perfectly happy
just openly happy

In my home, I've always known
I gotta be happy alone
so burn the mail, destroy the phone
yeah, I'd wanna be happy alone
the moving sky, the rocks below
All so perfectly happy alone

Our little hearts have turned to stone
I'd better be happy...
Ba da da...

phantom.

As a person grows older, they also grow more tired faster.

While most people say it's due to physical causes such as muscles and joints slowly wearing out. Cells and bones don't grow back as fast as they used to. Blah blah blah.

Wanna hear my reason?

People get tired more easily mentally and emotionally which then affects them physically.

The older you get, the higher the total count for lies you've told. Incidences that you've had to brush or smooth away in order to keep the peace. More times that you'll have to put up a brave face when inside something's breaking.

And in the end, all the pretending sucks the energy out of you. It takes so much effort to put on the mask every morning to face the world. The world that tells you every thing's gonna be alright. "Every thing will be okay in the end. If it isn't okay, it isn't the end" But ultimately, you keep up with the masquerade. You think "Hey, it's already been 30 years. What's another 30?"

So it never ends, everyone wears a mask.

What do I have to say about this?

No, I'm not gonna say that we all should learn to throw away our masks. Cause honestly, the mask always gives off a better appearance, it gives people comfort seeing as they can control what mask people see them wear but they can't change the person that lies behind the mask. However, I do say that in life, look for those few that you can put your mask down with. Then maybe, just maybe, growing old won't be as tiring as it's suppose to be.

chess.

Exams are coming soon but I can't say I regret having spent the last 2 and a half hours watching a movie.

Shawshank Redemption.

Hands down one of the BEST movies I have ever watched.

It's even rated No. 1 on IMDB's Top 250 list.

If it could beat movies like The Godfather, The Dark Knight, Psycho, Fight Club and LOTR (just to name a few). I knew it had to be good.

The script was good. Plot excellent. Characters fantastic. Not to mention that it was so realistic. There was no sudden miracle that made it a happy story, everything in it made perfect sense. It showed the true nature of men. The fear that mankind face, the greed that ultimately destroys them. And most of all, how hope never dies.

I insist everyone watch the movie.

butterfly.

Just a little something that I wanna talk about.

Couples who celebrate anniversaries.

No offense meant here but just my two cents.

I know I find it weird that some couple celebrate their anniversaries ALL the time. One month, 6 months or 1 year anniversaries are okay. But don't you think it gets kinda weird when people start having 88 days or 5 months or 1 year 1 month 1 day anniversaries??

Honestly I think most people celebrate anniversaries cause they wanna use it as an excuse to dress up and go for a fancy dinner. Or even just so that their significant other will buy them a present that 'means something'.

Should I ever get myself into a relationship, anniversaries will not be the "YES!! We've made it this far!!" event but the "THANK YOU!! You have made my life that much happier."

Did you know that it's possible to write an ENTIRE book of over 50,000 words without the use of the letter E?

*GADSBY* the book that seemed impossible.

It was written in 1939 by Ernest Vincent Wright.

Quite cool no?

leave of absence.

Interesting thought.

You know how in French 'I Love You' is Je t'aime?

Technically aime is the word for like. While amour is the word for love.

So why don't people just say J'amour??

Okay, while for those who know French will know that armour is a noun and therefore can't be used to express the feeling of love, wanna hear my reasoning? Yes I know my train of thought might not always be easy to follow but hey, I think it makes sense.

French is the language of love. Yet it's ironic how they technically say 'I Like You' instead of 'I Love You'. But I think they're smart that way. It may be deemed the language of love but in truth in reveals what love really is. Non existent. More likely that someone actually likes a person instead of being in 'love' with another person. No?

Oh well. I might change my opinion but I highly doubt so.

spring.

Hmm, not sure whether people out there know but there's this TV series called Dollhouse.

It's about this organization that produce "Dolls" who are basically normal people who have had their memories wiped so that they can be programmed with a desired personality. So if you wanna hire an assassin then they'll program one for you and so forth. Quite an interesting series.

But that's beside the point.

The point is that I've found out that there is actually a company similar to this series in reality.

In Japan, there's a company called Hagemashi Tai a.k.a I Want to Cheer Up Limited.

You can 'rent' pets which you can take for walks and stuff if you want. About $10 an hour. That's just for pets though. You can also rent people. Cool right? You can rent actors to pretend to be your relative at a wedding or funeral. Or even for single mums who need a father figure for their kids or for young women who wanna experience a 'marriage'. Yup.

Two articles about it *HERE* and *HERE*

forget it.

Let's pose a hypothetical situation.

You're in your car driving down a road at night coming back from some outing at a shopping complex. Suddenly out of nowhere a drunk driver speeding crashes right into your car at the passenger's side.

Your car is crushed beyond recognition but you're still alive. You crawl out of the car using only the strength of one hand seeing as your other looks like it's in a funny position. As you reach for your handphone to call a family member you also realise that your back seems to be getting wetter and wetter with the blood that's spilling out of your head. You call your mother. No answer. So you have no choice but to call your father to come help.

He picks up the phone and you try to tell him in as little words as possible your situation cause you feel yourself getting short of breath. Now it's his turn to reply.

Which reply to you think is more realistic?

"I know you're not okay but everything's going to be fine. I'll rush over there as fast as I can."

or

"WHAT!!! YOU CRASHED THE CAR! Do you know how much that car costs? Does it look like it's possible to get the car fixed cause I'm not forking out any more money to get you another car."

Not sure bout you people out there. But I am positive I know which is more realistic for me.

Today, I was talking with friends about how it was so silly as kids to believe in cooties. Then my friend said "Dude, they're still real. We just now call them STD's." I now look at my whole childhood differently. MLIA

don't matter.

Answer to previous post's question.

*I'd save my mother but die with you.*

Yes I know it sounds like a stupid decision. But hey, the romantic in me likes it =D.

Haha.

Anyways,

Yesterday went for the Clinical Psychology talk organized by Student Council. It was pretty interesting. Nice to know that real life hypnosis isn't like the kind you watch on TV with the swinging watch and people clucking like chickens.

Then after that went to Marcia's place for lunch. She cooked!! =). It was a good lunch.

Went back home bout 5.30 and spent some time at home before driving out to 1U. Had dinner with Jia, Fi and Belinda. Was still full from lunch so didn't have much for dinner.

That's about it. Holiday day one gone.

Sunday, September 13, 2009

break even

Hmm. Here's a question that I'm sure all girls have asked their boyfriends at one point.

"If both your mother and I were drowning in the sea, who would you save?"

But seriously, what kind of answer would the girl expect?

If the guy were to say his mother. Pretty sure the girl would go "So you don't love me?"

Yet if he says he would save the girl, the reply would go like this "So family isn't important?"

Sigh. Complicated no?

Think you can come up with the perfect answer? Leave a comment.

Cause in fact I have heard of an answer that I deem to be the perfect solution.

Things to do during two week holidays:

1. Write personal statement. Sigh.

2. Complete Psych notes.

3. Finish Hamlet analysis. Double sigh.

4. Study study study.

5. FANFICTION!!! Haha. Read and write.

6. Fold stars =D. Done with 1 pack already(there's 128 in it).

might as well.

3 movies. 2 days. 1 very happy Weng Yee =D.

Haha. So exams were over yesterday for those of us who don't take law or bio.

Went over to 1U right after last paper(Thinking Skills 1). Ate at Big Apple, bought bubble tea from Little Taiwan before the 5 of us(Caroline, Marcia, Pam, Anthea and I) watched my The Ugly Truth.

I give it a MUST WATCH!!!!

Though the story line is cliched and predictable the jokes are good. Haven't laughed so much during a romantic comedy for ages.

Anthea went back after that as she had a dinner while the rest of us spent A LOT of time in MPH. Haha. Had dinner at Vietnamese Kitchen and the proceeded to watch Up. It was quite good for a cartoon. The beginning was soooooo sad though. Won't spoil it for you but I did feel that perhaps really young kids wouldn't enjoy this movie as much as older kids would.

Oh oh oh! My sister watched the same movie as me. Yes you're probably going "So what?". But it's my youngest sister, Weng Mun. First time ever I think that she's going out with her friends with no parents. I feel old. I do indeed.

Today went to 1U again. Sigh. This time to meet up with Jia Lik and Amanda for another movie. Sam joined us for bubble tea(yes from the same place) while we waited for Fu to get herself over to 1U. Had lunch at Delicious where if you heard our conversation you'd think that we lived in Harry Potter land. Strange we are.

3rd movie was Final Destination in 3D. Gah. Not for the faint hearted. While most who watched it in 2D said it was really boring, it is anything but if you watch it in 3D. Oh so gruesome and terrifying. Never again. But I must say it was a very imaginative movie. Very creative ways to die.

Drive home was okay. Motorcycles scare me when they do that cutting into everyone's lane thing. Especially when there are two motorcycles on each side cutting in.

Only one more day to go!!

And I'm done with the scary papers i.e Lit & Maths.

Ending this post with some quotes. Enjoy =D.

I'm an angel! Honestly! The horns are just there to keep the halo up straight.

Everyone keeps telling me the right guy will come around, but I think mine got hit by a bus.

My mother told me not to talk to strangers. I don't talk to myself anymore.

Here are a couple of my favourite ones.

signaling function.

The air was ice cold. The strange absence of sound in a place that is usually filled with everyday business. Suddenly everything was further away. Someone had moved their positions, and it only served to send fear into everyone's soul. Those who were prepared were seen to be quick and precise in their movements. But for those unfortunate ones who did not see the importance of preparation could only scratch their heads and wring their brains in vain.

You had no one but yourself to get you through this ordeal. It was a do or die situation.

As the final minutes drew nearer, everyone could feel the tension that was so thick you couldn't even slice through it. And finally, those long awaited words were uttered.

"Okay everyone, please stop writing while the teachers collect you answer booklets."

glee.

Another interesting bit of information.

It's called the Great Man Theory.

The Great man theory is a philosophical theory that aims to explain history by the impact of "Great men", or heroes: highly influential individuals who, due to either their personal charisma, intelligence and wisdom or Machiavellianism, used power in a way that had a decisive historical impact.

Obviously I don't believe in it at all. How can you say that history is all based on the actions and decisions of one single individual? While I'd agree that some people are more influential when it comes to the course of history, it is ultimately the many people or events around that one 'great man' that led to the actions that he would take. The Domino Effect to say the least.

On that note. Here's a really cool domino effect video. With no real dominos used.

There's a book based on the website too.

everything out.

Yes I know it's dated 2005. But some advice never grows old.

Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

If only I could live by those lines.

I wonder how many of us are actually pursuing something because we actually love it. Or because we think it'll bring us the most money or fame or make our parents happy.

How different life would be if everyone did what they liked and not what parents said would be good for the future just because they have  'eaten more salt than you have eaten rice'

cliff of love.

Does love change the way you think?
A landmark experiment in Pisa, Italy showed that early love (the attraction phase) really changes the way you think.

Dr Donatella Marazziti, a psychiatrist at the University of Pisa advertised for twenty couples who'd been madly in love for less than six months. She wanted to see if the brain mechanisms that cause you to constantly think about your lover, were related to the brain mechanisms of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.

By analysing blood samples from the lovers, Dr Marazitti discovered that serotonin levels of new lovers were equivalent to the low serotonin levels of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder patients.

Haha. Looks like bring in love is like having OCD.

How to fall in love.

  • Find a complete stranger.

  • Reveal to each other intimate details about your lives for half an hour.

  • Then, stare deeply into each other’s eyes without talking for four minutes.

York psychologist, Professor Arthur Arun, has been studying why people fall in love.

He asked his subjects to carry out the above 3 steps and found that many of his couples felt deeply attracted after the 34 minute experiment. Two of his subjects later got married.

Hmm. Falling in love simplified?

down down down.

Why is it that some people always seem to be so angry?

Is it that something went wrong with their day that they have to be in a bad mood?

Or more likely that their selfish arrogant ways makes it difficult for them to understand that the world does not freaking revolve around them?

Or that they are so hypocritical that they can't see all their flaws in themselves?

Or....is it just that they want attention?

Someone explain to me please. Cause if I have to deal with this all the time I might just very well chuck someone out the window. Hopefully into a nice deep hole with lots of spikes.

Ah sarcasm. Love it hate it. Can't deny that it brings about lots of laughter. But whether people are laughing at you or with you is a different matter.

Here are some sarcastic quotes. If you don't get it. You have a lot to learn.

» Sometimes I need what only you can provide: your absence.
- Ashleigh Brilliant

» I never forget a face, but in your case I'll be glad to make an exception.
- Groucho Marx

» If you ever become a mother, can I have one of the puppies?
- Charles Pierce

» He has Van Gogh's ear for music.
- Billy Wilder

Hahahahaha.

Sigh. Back to studies now. Boo.
