So it's been just about one month since I've started my internship at KinkyBlueFairy. And I've learnt/done so much more than I ever thought I would. I thought I'd be doing lots of small tasks but because I joined during their busiest period, it's been a bit hectic at times.

1. Got to see what it's like to set up a stall at Seek & Keep @ BSC.
2. Wrote a couple of blog posts. Let me tell you straight up that so much more work goes into a blog post than you can imagine. From making sure you've included all the necessary info, editing every single picture that appears as well as trying to make the post engaging.
3. Saw the BTS of a product photoshoot. Seriously, it takes up a whole freaking day.
4. Uploading stock info onto the e-commerce site.
5. And the most stressful thing of all being preparing for The Ship in Singapore. No jokes. Packing and labeling 10 boxes of stock, interviewing people to be on the sales team, and getting the 101 small items that you don't even know you need till you need it. Worse thing is I'm not even on The Ship because I'm still waiting on my visa so no passport!!! ='(

But it's really been a great month! Everyone on the team has been fun and nice and just generally giving off some great vibes. Even though there are times where we end up working till late, it doesn't ever feel like a drag and time passes so quickly. Just the day before I was working on a presentation and time just slipped away that when I checked the time it was already 9pm.

A month since I last blogged. And a week since I've been back.

When I tell people that I stayed back in London for summer most assume that I got an internship. When I tell them that I was doing some waitressing work instead they are surprised. I mean, I don't exactly need the money so why was I choosing to do such a job instead of learning something at an internship?

Well, to be frank, I think everyone should do a waiting stint. It may not seem like you'd learn anything at all since you don't intend to make a career out of it, but the experience is definitely something I'd recommend.

As waiting staff, you are the bottom of the food chain. Everyone and anyone will tell you off.

From managers telling you off for putting the glasses into the wrong crates because no one told you that different glasses go into different coloured crates.

To customers demanding for their food when the kitchen is in utter chaos.

To taking half an hour to get a bottle of tabasco sauce because no one seems to know where it is and then getting told off by the bar staff for being too slow.

To people who come back to the buffet table for like a 5th helping when they're only allowed one.

You see all kinds of people. Don't get me wrong, I've met really nice people as well. Especially since I'm Malaysian and a lot of people have had really good holidays here so we have a nice time chatting about the awesome selection of food and stuff. Getting tips is a nice bonus as well. And sometimes it's for the little things like knowing to ask whether the customer would like their scotch neat or on the rocks or serving a customers grandkid.

Have so much for understanding for people who work in hospitality now.

boat ride.

So I've just finished my first shift of work.

Cashiering in a restaurant is not as easy as I thought it would be.

Got placed in the Champagne & Seafood restaurant at the Hampton Court Flower show. Quite a trek to get there as it's about an hour and a bit door to door as Hampton Court is all the way out in zone 6. Didn't really know what to expect from this first job so was a tad nervous at the beginning.

But I do have to say that it was a great week. Really tiring from all the standing up and the occasional moments of stress when too many people want to  pay the bill at the same time and there is only so much you can do at a time. Also that the system crashes every day at the same time which is bad cause it's usually when some people want their bills so you have to make them wait.

Other than cashiering did a ton of polishing as well. It's like whenever there is free time, it's spent polishing glasses. A never ending stream of glasses and cutlery that need polishing.

Really glad that the tips got split between all the staff. I know that most people tip cause they got good service from the waiter/waitress, so it may seem unfair that they have to split their tips. However, if the runners serve slowly or the relay team don't set up a table in time or the cashiers get the orders wrong, would the service still be the same? So while yes the waiter/waitress plays an important part, but there are many others behind the scenes who help make the service better.

Had a lovely bunch of people to work with. Some of them who have been with offtowork(the agency we all work for) for a year have said that this was one of the best weeks they've had working. The managers were all really nice giving us bacon rolls in the morning for breakfast and sweets throughout the day for a sugar boost.

Honestly could not have asked for a better start to all the part time work I'm doing.

I think as I grow older time seems to pass a lot faster. Hard to imagine that my first year in Manchester has come to an end.

Went to Spain for 11 days after my exams as a summer trip. Started in Madrid, moved on to Ibiza and finally ended in Barcelona. Will blog about it in parts over the next couple of days. While most people were busy packing up to go back home, I was packing up to move to a temporary home.

My home for this summer is London town! Exciting stuff. Managed to get a job for the Olympics so decided that staying here and experiencing the Olympics is worth more than going home and doing in internship in a company. Perhaps the Olympics is not as relevant to my degree as a internship in a bank would be, but how often will I be living in the same country as the Olympics?

Next one will be in four years and by then I'll be out in the working world and time off is definitely not as easy to come by. Student life is the best times as people always say. I might as well milk it for all it's worth.

Just finished another round of work yesterday. This time it was a four day stint at KL Convention Centre.

I must say I definitely enjoyed the work more this time round. Cause the place was much nicer =). It was also more fun seeing as there were more of us working so we could chit chat in between serving customers. Haha. Even packing up was quite amusing. Let's just say that the guys were very entertaining as they rolled and packed up the carpets =P.

I sold almost double the amount of rolls this time round for the wallcoverings. And my feet don't hurt or feel numb at all. Guess that with experience everything gets easier.

I think everyone should do this kind of promoting job at least once. It's interesting to see the many different types of people.

Updates on the last couple of days.

Had a farewell for Faiz on Thursday. He's leaving for KYUEM(Kolej Yayasan United Engineers of Malaysia) in July as most of you know. Lucas originally told him that there were only 4 of us as the others were too busy. But the actual truth was that others were laying in wait to surprise him.

Those who turned up. Jun Kit left earlier.

So yeah. It was fun. Went to mamak after dinner. Pretty fun.

We're going to miss you Faiz. College will never be the same.

Had my last day of work yesterday. I am going to sort of miss it. Different kind of people. Yet I find that they're just a slightly more grown up version of those in college. The jokes cracked are relatively the same. Highlight of the day is still lunch.

Ah well. Went to Pavillion after work to watch Transformers 2 with Caroline, Lucas, Marcia and Darren. I would say that I enjoyed the movie. But it is WAY overrated. There is no way I'm sitting through another 2.5 hours of mainly mindless action.

And then finally today I went for a treasure hunt. Along with Amanda, Kim and Caroline. Organized by MENGO. It was freaking hard. The questions were seriously difficult. The only way people could have gotten the answers is if they are seasoned treasure hunters. Guess it's time to join more!! Haha.

And so starts another two weeks of A-levels holidays.

Or in some cases.

Two weeks of internship.

Yes people, I'm doing another two weeks of internship. But at a different place.

Doing at an investment bank this time. Pretty interesting. And I can actually apply the stuff I learned in economics! =D

Downside is that it takes much longer to get home cause I have to take the monorail and change at KL central.

That's all. Too lazy and tired to type anything more elaborate.

Hmm, let's briefly sum up what I've learned in the past two weeks.

1. How to take the LRT during peak hours. (Yes!! I'm so much better at taking public transport now.)

2. That food around work is cheaper than in college. (Sigh.)

3. Investigating is not fun. (It's quite tiring.)

4. AIG is not the same as AIA. (Seriously, they're two different companies in two different buildings.)

5. Auditing work is tedious to say the least.

6. AML, WP, CBC, IAD. (Bet you don't know what they mean =D.)

7. Masjid India is next to Jalan Melayu. (Strange I know.)

8. BMI over 30 is FAT. But below 20 is underweight.

9. How to play hearts and minsweeper properly. (Played in the morning BEFORE work started okay.)

10. Finally, college life is more relaxed than work. (So better enjoy it while it lasts!!)

So yeah, that's basically it. Do I regret spending my entire holidays there? I would say not eventhough that means I had absolutely no rest.

But oh well, I'm sure that sacrifice will pay off sooner or later.

And now it's time to go off and enjoy the little time left.

Ballet exam went okay today I suppose. You can't really tell your own mistakes when you have to focus on the dance and there is no one else in the room but the examiner and the pianist to watch you.

After some relatively messy planning, ended up at Curve with Amanda, Caroline, Lucas, Faiz and Daniel.

Dinner over at Ikea where Caroline had her first ever taste of Swedish meatballs. Haha. Lots of super lame and sick jokes.

Went over to Cineleisure to watch Righteous Kill after that. Not bad, but did not live up to expectations. However, with the right people, this movie can be pretty entertaining. And you know something's wrong when you laugh at something slightly twisted and noone else laughs with you.

Nice break from work. But it's back to auditing tomorrow.

It's okay. Nothing really much to say. The people here are really nice though.

Auditing does actually seem quite interesting. For those who don't know what auditing is, let me sum it up for you in the simplest way.
